Residents' Rights
Residents’ Rights are rights guaranteed by federal and/or state law for nursing home residents and assisted living residents. There are also Patient Rights for those receiving long term care services in their homes or communities. Basically, whether you live in a nursing home or assisted living facility or in your own home, you still have all the same civil and legal rights as any other U.S. citizen. In addition, federal law guarantees specific rights for nursing home residents, while state law spells out certain specific rights for assisted living residents. Home care and hospice recipients also have rights protected under state law. These rights are set in law to protect the dignity, choice and self-determination of those receiving long term care services thereby improving their quality of life.
